Mr. Baguette

It's been about two years since I last had banh mi at Mr. Baguette in Rosemead. So, last weekend I decided to pass on my favorite shop, Baguette Express, and drive the extra few minutes East on Valley Blvd. to check them out again.

I was a bit surprised at the prices. The sandwiches are now about $3-$4 each (is this now the norm?). I only tried the chicken version. Chunks of dark thigh meat with a fair amount of gristle. The breads are baked fresh daily (hourly, IIRC), but they were a bit too chewy for my tastes. The crust did not have that crunchiness. As was the baguettes at $1.25 which might well be the best bargain there.

I have tried Ba Le on Atlantic and Lee's on Valley, but my favorite remains Baguette Express.

Are there any new SGV sandwich shops worth mentioning?

BTW, the plastic bag mentions another Mr. Baguette in Monterey Park at 404 S. Atlantic Blvd (again IIRC) but I don't know if that location still exists.
