My husband and I visited The Original Fish Co. in Los Alamitos Thursday on a recommendation for whole belly clams we found on Chowhound.
He had the Ipswich whole belly clams (one of the Today's Specials) and I had the Wild Alaskan Halibut. One word sums up both our our dishes: dry and overcooked! What a dissapointment.
My husband is a native Nor-Easterner and a whole belly clam connoisseur. We only get them once a year when we go to Maine on vacation. When I saw the post about LAOFC having the closest thing to east coast clams, we both got very excited and when that night.
The New England clam chowder tasted strangely sweet and tangy--like they doctored it up with sweet pickle relish. The clams were fried to a dark brown and my halibut had not a drop of moisture in it. Coleslaw was tasteless, too. All of that for about $6o-no alcohol.
Won't go back EVER!
