Bad experience at Zinc, New Haven

I thought Zinc was decent when I first went four years ago, but I feel like it's slipped into dullness. Last year I went there and had an entree of sea scallops (which I noticed is on the menu right now as well) which were almost, but not quite, overcooked, and possessed absolutely no flavor at all.
Last night I went again for a friend's birthday. I wasn't particularly hungry, so I just ordered the vegetarian Vietnamese crepe. The crepe was an inch think and had the consistency of a greasy omelet. A few unidentifiable green vegetables were thrown in, but they contributed nothing in texture or taste. In was actually a weird experience, eating something that had no identifiable flavor. The hot sauce on top was mildly spicy and nothing else.
I tried some of my friends' food as well. The penne was so uninspired I can't remember what was in it besides some sad peas and a bland, bland cheese. The 'Zinc chop salad' was literally just chunks of iceberg lettuce with an oily and barely sweet-tangy sauce thrown over the top.
Given that we could be paying the same amount at Bespoke or Ibiza, we were all fairly miffed. It also struck me as a little strange that the table wasn't given bread or anything else before our mains arrived.
Has anyone else has been disappointed with Zinc recently?
