Hurrican O'Reilly's by North Station is just as bad as you'd expect. The mealy shake-n-bake style barely-clinging-batter on the calamari, the spinach-artichoke dip comes with a 5:1 dip-chip ratio. Guinness is man-handled and far too cold. Service hovers at the quality usually reserved for the post-Bruins crowd, i.e., when their patrons are too drunk to notice service is grotesquely inattentive. One slightly redeeming thing; the calamari came with deep-fried pepperoncini, quite delicious. I could have eaten an order of those (though with a different dipping sauce).
What can you do when they're the only bar in town playing the college football game you want to see?
Also this weekend, went to Toscanini's for some ice cream (scoop of Nocciola yogurt & oatmeal cookie). Only to hear from some staff members having a meeting nearby that we should feel lucky because our portions were too large. At $3.45 for 2 scoops who knew? Bloodsuckers.
Weekend wasn't a total chow-wash. Picked up a fennel salami from Salumeria Italiana (was hoping for the Saucisson made with Beaujolais they had a few month back, but they were out) and some sausages from Sulmona's ($3.50lb and they had sweet and spicy in stock).
