Avoid the Elbow Room - W. Hartford

Wow - I can't remember the last time I sent food back.

But we decided to swing over to W. Hartford for lunch and a look at the new shopping area after dropping #1 son off at the airport on Sun.
Husband saw Elbow Room and said he remembered reading a few nice reviews about it some time back.

So we go in. Pretty busy, looked reasonably well kept - look at menu - Since it is Sun morning they are serving a Brunch menu - - nothing special or imaginative - but we decide to sit.

I was trying to decide between a Bison Burger or their 3 cheese M&C (I already had eaten breakfast) ---- so went with the M&C.

Now, as a preface - and reference to my opening remark - I took a few bites of the M&C and just could't eat it at all. Salty, pasta was clearly undercooked& lukewarm , cheese sauce was bland and watery (clearly not oven baked M&C) and the bread crumbs were overwhemlingly stale. I couldn't mush on - I had to send it back.

Hubby ordered a twist on Eggs Benedict w/steak.....he seemed to be doing ok - -

while I waited for my 2nd choice ( I should have trusted my instincts) - he was having trouble slicing the steak and I asked if his meal was OK - I think he was feeling bad about taking us in there - so he said it was just OK - he said the eggs were watery tho - so I looked and indeed their was a gathering pool of clear liquid between his English Muffin and steak (another sign of poor cooking - they clearly did not dry off their poached eggs before putting on the plate)

So while I drank lukewarm coffee (sense I was having a bad meal here?) - - -

my bison burger finally came - I was starving and looking forward to eating now

- - I bit into it and it was - lets say "tasteless" meat would be a compliment - - I ordered cheese and since I am not a condiments person when it comes to any burger - generally choosing to want to taste the meat I paid for - I have to say I was thankful for the cheese (what there was of it and not very zesty) and the reheated "carmelized" onions (which had a bit of a refrigerator taste to them)

Their "elbow" fries were not very hot out of the kitchen , but were OK, not great.

I ate about half and ate the pickle which was actually a decent pickle and passed on the limp and sad tomato slices......

As we left - my husband confessed - had I not sent my dish back - he was thinking of sending his back.....

Well - you can see from my posting history I am not one to diss a place

But the food here was on the verge of inedible ,,,,,, so I felt I had to let folks know,,,,,,

On the bright side - the hostess staff and waitress were VERY pleasant, cheerful and apologetic!
