In many New York restaurants there were Automats. Does anyone remember any Automats in Chicago cafeterias long ago? Automats were where you slipped in 3 nickels or a Quarter in a slot to release open a window and then you pulled out your tray. The cooks worked behind the wall and would fill the empty spot when you pulled out your tray. These were not self service machines like you will find in a breakroom of a business today. Many old movies from the 30's and 40's show people eating in these establishments. I was just wondering if anyone remembers Chicago having these in the past?
