HAVE to have authentic Mexican

Has anyone been forced to live in the south after having grown up in California? It's pure gastronomic hell. People eat velveta dip (Queso dip with Chips), quesadilla is spelled phonetically on the menu (kay-sa-dee-ya), pickled jalapenos are the only in the house, anything beef looks and smells remarkably like Fancy Feast, and rellenos are made with Anaheims (cheaper?). I can't stand it. I never knew how much I'd miss it. So, now I'm on my way back, and I'm bringing along some friends who know it's different out there, that, although these are real Mexicans serving us, it's not what they're eating in the back....but they've never had it. So, who can recommend authentic Mexican in SF? I love Mariachi, but it's not a requirement. What I want is real rellenos, shredded beef, mole, the works. Maybe a tacqueria with the little corn tortillas and the meat on spits and the cilantro and onion garnish...the hot red or green...Help!
