Went to August Saturday night (1247 South 13th Street used to be a little thai takeout place). Place was is completely redone and very pretty . At 7pm it was 75% full and they took us with no reservation (stayed about 75-80% full the entire time we were there). Looked like a very neighborhood crowd (people seemed like regulars hugging the host, etc..). Menu was small but with good choices.
Service was very friendly and attentive, waitress filled our water, wine often, without being overbearing. Bread was awful (enough said). We ordered roasted peppers ($8) as an app. Really really good, served warm with anchovies, a little pricy in my opinion but tasty none the less. For entrees I had the crab cake ($20) and hubby had the pork chops ($16). Crab cake was wonderful served over fresh creamed corn and topped with fresh spinach (dont know where you get fresh corn right now but you can really tell the difference). Crab cake was solid white lump crabmeat lightly pan fried and decently sized. Crab and corn tasted phenomenal together. I was really very hungry and this meal did not fill me at all (a very light dish so probably my fault for ordering it). Hubby liked the pork chops (2 thin ones) served with whipped sweet potatoes and broccoli raab (said it was good but nowhere near matysons or sabrinas for the same price).
We were still a little hungry so we ordered 2 desserts (each $6). All desserts are homemade and very tasty. We had the chocolate mousse banana crème pie (really very yummy) and the flowerless chocolate torte (good not close to the one at matysons).
As for an idea of prices, all desserts were 6 (except crème brulee was 7), apps were 6-10, entrees were 14 (pasta/chicken) to 23 (filet). Menu had about 8-10 apps and the same number of entrees, they had 5 desserts.
Total was $56 plus tax and tip. I thought it was a slight bit high for what we had/the prices of the surrounding restaurants but that the food was very good and we had a nice time. We will definitely try it again
