I'm an MSP chowhound visiting Houston, who was buying a birthday dinner for my sweetie, a visiting ATL chowhound. I scrolled down the site for past recs, to find (among other good ones) t'afia.
Excellent choice. The white ratafia was really good; very full bodied and slightly dusky. They had a rare sparkling red on their wine list. The cheese plate was a treat. We both split the two fish entrees, and they were both excellent. One of our guests had the brisket and grits, and could NOT stop raving about them. The grits were extremely yummy - cooked in milk or cream?
Service was unobtrusive but responsive: the server was right there just when he was needed.
One common complaint about the place seems to be the noise. It was a little loud, but probably no louder than many places; it was not deafening.
All in all, everyone was pleased by the choice (especially my sweetie).
