That pinnacle of the ice cream season, Scooperbowl is going on today and tomorrow on City Hall Plaza, from 11:30-6. $5 donation to the Jimmy Fund gets you all the ice cream you can eat. And I take that as a sacred responsibility ;-)
Cold and drizzle didn't stop me today- as an extra bonus, lines were practically non-existent. There was a good sized crowd, but no waiting to get at the goods.
Here's a list of what I can remember I ate:
Ben & Jerry's "The Full Vermonty": a new flavor that is maple sugar ice cream with maple sugar/caramel swirls, studded with maple sugar encrusted nuts. My favorite and I had to have 2 cups.
Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Peanut Butter Truffle: chocolate ice cream with balls of peanut butter substance (like the inside of Reese's Peanut Butter cups.) Not bad but I've had better Choc/PB combos.
Brigham's Big Dig: vanilla with choc chips and caramel swirl. Not bad.
Brigham's Raspberry Lime Rickey Sherbet: I liked this one and it was a nice break from the heavier ice creams
Peak Treasures' Strawberry Shortcake. Strawberry ice cream with chunks of yellow cake and maybe some other stuff. Decent but a little artificial tasting.
Kemp's Strawberry Cheesecake, not the best rendition of this flavor (one of my favorite flavors)
Kemp's Big Bear Caramel Swirl (or something like that): vanilla ice cream with caramel swirl and caramel filled chocolate cups. Pretty good but not great.
Double Rainbow Meyer Lemon Sorbet. Very sour tasting after the rest. Really, too sour for me.
Garelick Farms Rock Pop: vanilla ice cream with coated red and blue pop rocks that fizz in your mouth after the coating melts off. I had this last year and thought it was really neat, but mine didn't fizz for me this year. My brother says his did.
Oh, it all runs together after a while... I'm missing one and can't remember which, oh well. I was disappointed that Haagen Daz was out of Dulche de Leche, my favorite, but obviously I managed to drown my sorrows.
Time for a nap....
