Asian market trip

I don't know why I don't get to the Asian market more often. Yes, it's on a busy, traffic-prone commuter route. But I made a point to go today and felt like a kid in a candy store!

Early dinner tonight: whole sea bass (cleaned to order) baked in banana leaves (bought frozen), with fresh ginger, garlic, and scallion inside. Chicken, shrimp, and veggie stir fry (to round out the meal and appeal to the kids) and sticky rice.

I have makings for fresh Vietnamese spring rolls this week (rice vermicelli, fresh herbs, shrimp, and rice wrappers), ground pork for homemade dumplings, and pork to roast another night. That's on top of the fresh veggies and fruits for "every day" use at much better prices than the supermarket.

The only disappointment was that once I opened the package (to make the planned lo mein stir fry), the fresh noodles were moldy. Next time I'll check more closely.

What are your favorite treasures from the Asian market? I'm especially intrigued by the array of fresh whole fish. I need to expand my recipes for those. Any suggestions? Or other recipes using banana leaves?
