New Asha/Staten Island "Day Trip" Report (long)

DeeDee | Jun 9, 2002 07:34 AM

Well I took the advice given by my fellow chowhounds and had a wonderful "day trip" to Staten Island with my husband yesterday. It was a beautiful sunny day which made the ferry ride even more relaxing. We walked from the ferry to New Asha,a Sri Lankan restaurant on Victory Boulevard. We sampled several vegetarian pastries, fish cakes and for our entrees had chicken kottu roti and vegetarian kottu roti and dal. We drank lime nectar and mango nectar.

Everything was very fresh, delicious and inexpensive. The whole meal set us a back only $16. The portions are huge and the woman behind the counter was very gracious. Afterwards, we strolled up the hill to Silver Lake Park and walked off our meal with a walk around the reservoir. Then walked to Adobe Blues (63 Lafayette Avenue) for a few beers. I hadn't been to Adobe Blues in a few years and was shocked at how high the prices were for some of my favorite Belgian beers. In some cases the price was almost double what you pay for the same beers in Brooklyn or Manhattan bars.

All in all, a wonderful time! Thanks to all of my fellow chowhounds for their sage advice.
