Asakuma - last night

My wife and I took our not quite 16 year old teen weasel out for dinner last night for successfully making it out of the 10th grade and being invited to come back for the 11th.

When I asked him where he wanted to go...well you all know the answer. We got there about 6:25 P.M. and it was not very crowded at all. As many, but not all of you know, Asakuma is upstairs in the mini mall on the north west corner of Barrington and Wilshire, (the same mall with a Pollo Inka and VIP Harbor Seafood).

Both my wife and son had the black cod with tempura dinner. The cod is delicious and the bento type box has a little side salad and some fruit and the tempura. It also comes with a little pre-dinner cucumber salad with noodles and a miso soup.

I had the broth steamed seafood special that comes with a very nice spicy sashimi salad, pretty darn big and the with my foiled wrapped packet of all sorts of fish and mussels and a scallop, shrimp and shitake mushroom deal I got a side of rice and a ponzu dipping sauce.

On top of all that we ordered maybe five or six different types sushi to start. I had an eel and avocado hand roll, some blue fin tuna and my son and wife had some salmon skin sushi, some sea eel and fresh water eel and I may be forgetting one?

In any case the dinner was quite good. Not over the top delicious, but very good. Service was excellent and with two sodas and one larger Sapporo the tab was $99 with tax and I tipped the waitress $20.

This is a the type of place to take a date or your parents or the unadventurous types, if you are ever looking for something more upscale, good and safe.
