Armitage and Halsted spots for a newbie?

david de berkeley | Aug 23, 2004 06:47 PM

my s.o. moved to lincoln park, and i would appreciate some advice on places near armitage and halsted. walking distance would be great, but cab distance is acceptable. so far, we've tried:

taco burrito palace #2: the steak chimichanga is fantastic, a huge deep fried creation smothered in guacamole and sour cream.

ringo: i've written about this cheap sushi place before. always have a good meal here, not much of a roll fan, but the black dragon roll is great.

stanley's: excellent catfish and macaroni, good chicken fried steak and southern spaghetti, mediocre piece of apple pie (filling was solid, nice thin slices without too much sugar/syrup, but possibly the worst pie crust i have ever eaten, mushy and seemingly underdone).

nookies: decent breakfast spot, i had a ham/spinach/swiss omelette, nothing to write home about, but a good neighborhood place. s.o. liked the crab cakes.

also, any non-fratastic bars would be appreciated.
