I always miss Arizmendi's special breads, so I was pleased to taste a sample of their Day of the Dead bread today (SF location). A whole loaf is about the size of a smallish challah, shaped like a person. The sign said it's flavored with orange and anise. It definitely tasted of anise, but was more savory than I expected, not very sweet at all. It would be great with dinner. I would have bought a loaf immediately, but lacked enough cash. I'll be back tomorrow though -- it's $4.75 and really tasty. The bread sells 10/31, 11/1, and 11/2.
If the food at the Day of the Dead festival in Oakland is going to be this good, I'm really excited.
