46th street just north of Queens Blvd. They are now closed on Mondays. In the early days Ariel's looked like a pizza take out place. After continuous renovation, the atmosphere is more cozy and restaurant-like rather than pizza parlor.
The first time I went, for appetizer I asked for steamed clams instead of mussels. Even though it wasn't on the menu, they cooked it to order. The clams were juicy and plump, the broth rich and perfect with their special airy garlic/sesame rolls. For entrees we had the Lamb Shank and the Calf Liver. Both would have put many Manhattan places that charge a lot more to shame.
For the first time I took advantage of their pasta special: after 8:30 pm, you get a pasta, a salad and dessert for $10.99. Portions were perfect. The linguini with vongole had large clams that were again more flavorful than one dare to wish for.
