Anthony Bourdain is going to be at the Commonwealth Club. Monday, January 14th - Its a 6:45 wine & cheese reception; 7:30 - 8:30 "In conversation with Barbara Lane, Media Personality; Director of the California Book Awards".
Anyone want to make this a Chowhound event by meeting up for drinks before, going together or chowing down afterwards?
We could meet before for drinks and come up with really insightful questions for the Q&A period (For example, "Mr. Bourdain, I understand you have actually had the honor of meeting Simon Majumdar - What's he really like?"). My favorite boozer bar in nearby - Ginger Trois - small, dark bar; cheap, strong drinks; afternoon patrons are professional alkies, early evening patrons are working slaves, then it gets gayer and gayer as the evening progresses. What more could you ask for in establishment that serves hard alcohol?
Or we can have dinner afterwards to discuss and analyze the deeply profound conversation between Mr. Bourdain and Ms. Lane which we will have just witnessed. Or discuss and analyze the wine & cheese selection.
Any suggestions for a game plan, bars, restaurants are welcome. Feel free to post here or email me directly.
FYI - I heard the Commonwealth Club tried to book his appearance as a dinner (like they did for Jacques Pepin) but they couldn't find a restaurant that would book them once they found out it was for Bourdain. Could it possibly be true? Are SF restaurants are run by people that uptight??
