Annual foodie trip - except we need to economize, pls help!

This year my husband has refused to be jostled on the street and stranded at the airport...and so does not want to go to NYC at Christmastime. So I'm taking a girlfriend instead.

She's a great cook, relatively adventurous eater, on her first trip to NYC (I think). She also just quit her job to take a PhD, and so I don't want to drag her to Daniel, Jean George, etc.(If I could get in, anyway)

Some of the other restaurants I'm considering are listed below. I don't have a concept of which ones are reasonably priced and which ones aren't:

Bar Tonno
Eleven Madison Park
Jacks Luxury oyster Bar
Cafe Gray

Other suggestions happily accepted. I like tasting menus, wine pairings. Do not like "comfort food", steak. I think my friend would like a vibrant room w/ a little bit of a scene. Food must be primary, though. Although staying uptown, I don't really care where we travel.

I already have a res at Babbo, so I am stretching the "economical" rule already. I have eaten at Babbo twice and loved it. SHould I try Lupa instead? Is it significantly less expensive? I read mixed reviews.

We probably will just graze at lunch, so I need 2 dinner suggestions (Babbo(?) +2 )

Also, any great places for two ladies to have drinks near-ish the Michaelangelo after dinner?

Many thanks for indulging this rambling question.
