Announcing new chow-name.

JJP | Mar 28, 2002 06:06 PM

I have been accused by a friend of being a fuddy-duddy for using simply my own true initials (capitalized, no less) instead of a neato nickname when posting to this board. (His actual words did not really include the phrase "fuddy-duddy" but instead made reference to the constriction of a certain bodily region which I choose to leave unnamed). In order to validate my whimsicality, therefore, I have decided to adopt a nom de chow, to wit, "groaker". Anyone who has ever been around a dog will be familiar with the behavior of groaking, even if they do not know the word itself. Groak is an authentic, ancient word of which I have been fond for a number of years and which means, "to stare at someone else's food in the hope of being offered some". (Come clean now, how many of you knew there was actually a word for this?). Groakers, while usually silent, can occasionally be heard to utter their plaintive universal call, "Are you gonna eat all a that?". I feel a little guilty appropriating the word for my own, since I suspect we are all groakers here. Be that as it may, "JJP" is no more - henceforth I will be posting as "groaker". So shall it be written; so shall it be done.
