Anniversary dinner

I would love to try Alinea, but I fear hubby will not dig it. Being a young foodie myself ( not in age, only in experience) I too am a little hesitant. Is there someplace really cool and special but not quite so avant garde? I would love to try something different but my old man makes it tricky! We aren't use to such upscale fine cuisine out here in Rockford, but thanks to "Cooking With The Best Chefs"
Classes that just arrived out here, we are getting to experience these cuisines more.
