I had dinner at American Bistro last Friday night. Aside from the annoying no- reservations-after-6:30-for parties-numbering- less-than- five, it was quite good. Sorry to say, I was talking too much to take detailed mental notes, but I do recall that three of us had soft-shell crab which was not on the menu and not listed among the specials. I overheard another table asking about them and the waitperson comfirmed that they were available. They were excellent.......sauteed in a kind of light batter and served with an asparagus-studded risotto-like dish. The fourth person in the group had the pork tenderlon in a maple glaze with sweet potatoes.......this, too, was very good. These entrees came with mundane house (iceberg-ey) salads and we did not order apps or desserts so I cannot help there. But the menu is varied with lots of things that at least on paper sounded tempting. Service is breezy/casual/friendly and the decor is quite plain but overall I would recommend the place to anyone stuck in the area where good eating spots are thin on the ground.
