i had a very disappointing dinner at aki last night. i'm no sushi connoisseur, but i do love it and would rather have no sushi rather than bad sushi. my 2 companions had the $35 tasting menu; i opted out. the tuna mille feuille i started out with tasted of the apple slices and apple vinegar. the apple completely overpowered the tuna. i then had 2 rolls, the spicy tuna and the caribbean. the rolls were pretty small and big on rice. the spicy tuna was tasteless, not spicy at all. my companions said that their combined 4 appetizers were all on the salty side and the sushi was just ok. the spanish mackerel had a definite fishy taste. i lamented the fact that i could've taken them to a less fancy east vill place. ginger's spicy tuna roll is far superior, and jewel bako makimono's even more so. and at $6, $1 less than aki was charging.
