AJ's in White River Jct, VT

I was in Springfield VT this weekend and my mother and I took a scenic drive up Rt. 5 to W. Lebanon NH and White River. No foliage to speak of unfortunately. I wanted to go to the Hanover Inn but she pushed for AJ's which people told her was good. Someone sure likes it cuz it was jammed at 5:40 on a Sat. with a 30 min wait they told us (finally after the woman kept answering my "how long's" with "hello's.) We went to the lounge which was a mish mash of old furniture, a plaid couch, old leather recliner, folding chairs, etc. I thought it might be best to leave but we were lazy. Thankfully it only took 20 min to be seated and we checked out the mainly steak and seafood menu which was reasonably priced. I'm glad we didn't pay more cuz the food was mediocre at best. Tiny plates for the salad bar which had quite a few options and margerine for the bread. I ordered stuffed shrimp and tenderloin but my first bite of steak was gristle. Personally, I don't want pimientos in seafood stuffing so I was out of luck plus the shrimp were kind of dry and they didn't bring any melted butter (or margerine?). The baked stuffed scallops seemed a little better. Got mud pie for dessert but it was the most basic mud pie I've ever seen. Yet when we left, there was supposedly an hour and a half wait. Oh well.
