Problem: 18 year old Traulsen "home" model reefer has died.
For several reasons, don't want to purchase brand-new SubZero that seems to be a copy of it, among them new untested model, lack of Energy Star (mea culpa for Traulsen, but that was long ago), and 12 grand price tag.
Don't have a "built-in" situation; need to attach a 48" side-by-side to wall, which limits choices, eliminating KitchenAid and Monogram, which don't permit that.
My late reefer had no cute little nooks and crannies--just lots of capacity!
We don't want or need icemaker, etc., but probably must accept.
Under consideration: SubZero regular 48" or separate 26" reefer and freezer; Viking; JennAir. I know folks who swear at and by SubZ. Consumer Reports not much info on 48".
Came across an interesting product made by a company called Northland, but its website offered no info on noisiness, energy use, or even warranty, and my requests for info went unanswered. Not encouraging.
Am in San Francisco.
Any thoughts, experience greatly appreciated.
