Thanks again to all of you hounds who through your passion for great hole in the wall food have opened my eyes to Fuloon in Malden. I've now had about a half dozen meals there in the past 3 - 4 months or so, and my list of must order dishes seems to be continually increasing. I absolutely love many of the dishes so many of you have raved about, including the JingDu Pork Pancake, Steamed Beef, Wok Baked Beef, and Hot Diced Chicken.
Recently, though, I've stumbled across a new favorite, and last night added a second more familiar favorite to my growing regular rotation.
First, the familiar favorite, Dan Dan Noodles (listed as "Noodles with Spicy Szechuan Sesame Sauce"), are possibly my favorite local rendition. I've enjoyed this simple dish at Sichuan Gourmet, Sichuan Garden, and Chilli Garden, but Fuloon's may be my new favorite. Loaded with flavor, but a little bit lighter on the chili oil, it's packed with salty, spicy, numbing porky goodness.
Second, the new (to me anyway) revelation: Bean Curd Leaf with Pork. We ordered this dish for takeout based simply on the picture at the Fuloon Website http://fuloon-restaurant.com/images/B... and had to order it again last night. The pork is meltingly tender chunks of what must be pork belly, and as good as the pork is, it's nearly outshined by the knots of rolled and tied bean curd leaf, all of which is perfectly glazed with a rich brown sauce and topped, like several of our other favorites here, with just enough cilantro to provide a bright, fresh punch.
