Yesterday, I had a mozzarella in carozza for the first time in my life. It was at the A&A Deli, which is around 201 or 203 Main Street in Lincoln Park, NJ.
The deli is a fun place with a lot of prepared foods that look above-average and delicious. In a tray right on the front counter is a stack of mozzarella in carozza... two slices of bread sandwiching a layer of mozzarella that are then dipped in egg and fried.
Ask them to warm it for you, it's an amazing thing: sumptuously greasy, but not at all overpowering. For someone like me who prefers savory to sweet, it would make a great alternative to French Toast in the morning.
I'm sold. Now the question is, is the mozzarella in carozza I had at A&A something special, or are they ALL this good? Does anyone have any personal favorite places where I can try other versions of this item?
