Meeting up with an ex co-worker who has a passion for all things asian we decided to try out 9th gate korean bistro on front & Jarvis. The place is beaytiful, sexy interior nice chairs and tables but I should have known I would not be impressed when I noticed that there only seemed to be one Korean working there.... but we ordered anyway... The menu is small..
I started with fried shrimp and my buddy had a seafood "omlette". Both were very greasy my shrinp was crisp on the outside but the breading at the shrimp level was gummy. The seafood was pretty bland.
For a main I have the spicy pork tenderloin and buddy had the chicken Katsu. First off presentation was horrible.. everything laid flat on the plate with a glog of szuce on the side... the pork was ok but not much flavour and not much on the plate for the price.. the promissed mixed vegies turned out to be three small balls of bean sprouts, radish and greens ..
The Katsu was the thinest I have ever seen reminded me of a real bad veal cutlet in colour and texture.
Will not be going back total bill with a tea and two cocktails $56.
Left there and went to the foundation room... found it interesting that despite claims of great tapas food in their reviews a delivery guy came in with take out sushi that there were setting up on the seats of barstools against the front wall?? Also the service was very poor... there were three of us standing at the bar with one arriving 10 minutes after the rest and he was never once asked if he would like a drink. All the staff seemed occupied doing shots with the owner at the corner of the bar...
Will not be back...
