Went to 817 for breakfast this morning. First time in many months. Maybe it was partly due to the lovely weather, but it all seemed perfecto.
We always share the same thing: chorizo and eggs and ham and eggs. The eggs are always perfectly poached by the ace cook originally from Tijuana who's been doing it for years. He uses the poaching machine that's fun to watch if you've never seen one. The chorizo is the Spanish type and is sliced. These plates are served with 2 large slices of Acme Levain toast and some butter and great apricot jam (other jams at other times - always good).
The caffe lattes were as good as usual although they now serve them in bowls a la Francais instead of glasses (which my husband prefers). Unless you ask, you'll get a bowl of latte. We also had fresh orange juice which they almost always make to order. It was wonderful today.
Sitting out on Washington Street, under the trees, eating a great breakfast and reading the paper.....paradise found.
I was also happy to see that the place was packed (around 11:30) and that the new owners are keeping the flame of 817 burning bright (whatever that pompous statement means).
