My mom turns 80 next week and we are taking her to the Russian River for a long weekend. Unfortunately, our plans to take her to dinner to celebrate her day that weekend are not working out (too many people involved, and grandkids would be present who tend to want all the attention which we fear would make the dinner less mom-focused).
Instead, my brother and I now want to take just her and our dad out for a splurge dinner mid-week. Our focus will be on having the experience make her feel special and celebrated; i.e. fabulous service, beautiful decor/ambiance/view and an exciting menu. Large portions are not desired - she cannot eat much but likes delicious food. It's really the experience I'm after so she feels cherished.
She's been to Chez Panisse Cafe (liked it, but did not love it). We took them to Wente Restaurant for their anniversary (they liked) and Bridges but ideally, we'd take them someplace new.
We are considering Boulevard, Waterbar, or Farallon. I've been to the the latter two restaurants and know we'd have a good time, and I have heard great things about Boulevard, so I booked a reservation there.
I'd truly appreciate any suggestions for consideration before we lock this down. Cuisine - open to anything with a range. Location - open to SF and East Bay. It would be a party of 4 for dinner mid-week next week. Thanks!!
