SF 'hound coming in to take Dad to a very special 60th birthday dinner. A few years ago, I took him to Laurel and he adored it -- said it reminded him of what service USED to be: discreet, polite, well-timed -- he's the guy who likes it when his needs are anticipated.
I've searched the board, and it doesn't sound like Laurel is at all the same place (so sad, as that's where we'd planned to take him).
So, please recommend upscale dining, money is no object, where we may bring one bottle that has been lovingly stored for the occasion (we'll be buying something off the list as well, of course).
Service is paramount, as you can tell, and of course the food has to be very, very good. He seems to prefer more "classic" preparation, but a bit of a twist works too.
Any suggestions for us? TIA, and I'll be sure to report back!
