I live alone and usually cook for one, and currently use a 10 inch stainless steel skillet for daily cooking under lockdown. I want to gift myself with traditional tin lined copper cookware (partly because they look nice and I enjoy "heritage", partly because I want to shave off a few minutes to my prep time and skip pre-heating pans).
I want to buy a 22 cm (7.8 in) skillet for daily use because I find my current 10 inch skillet too large for pan frying a 200-250 gram fish fillet, chicken breast or small cut of steak (typically 6-7 inches long) or for quickly frying a couple of eggs.
I also want to buy a 34 cm (13.4 in) skillet for when I want space, like when I want to spread out over olive oil and pan fry zucchini strips, potato slices, etc. Right now, I don't want to spend the time to cook these in batches or have the vegetables come out sauteed or steamed instead of pan fried over a large pan of oil.
My question is, is a 34 cm skillet much too large compared to the more common choice of 30 cm (12 in) large skillet and does the extra 3/4 inch on each side make it unwieldy? Would love to hear from people in the same boat who have expanded their cookware collection while spending a lot more time at home. Specifically, I'd be keen to hear if people think it doesn't make sense in my context and I should buy a more typical 30 cm (or 26 cm or 10 in) skillet in addition to the 22 cm (7.8 in).
