I have never found a recipe on the internet or a tv show that followed my method of grating shortening and butter into say pastry or espically biscuit mix. A new tv show on foodtv.com called I believe Cookworks did a day or so ago. It has one food professional teaching about 8 beginner cooks about different subjects.
I have been doing this for years as I think it opens the door for a much higher rising and flakier biscuit. I do go one step further than they did in which I stick the butter and shortening in the freezer for a few minutes or up to about 30 minutes. The shortening is a little hard to grate so this tends to help.
BTW, I was testing a recipe from Paula Dean from Foodtv network yesterday which used store bought biscuit mix in a recipe for apple pie in essence. Terrible,... Baking powder taste... did not rise... does not match with tasty apples... I deleted any recipes I had from her... simply not credible.
