fellow 'hounds: my boyfriend and I are being spontaneous and spending new years in Montreal (12/29-1/1). Neither of us have ever been and we are looking so forward to it!! Have looked at board favorites - consulted 1 native, 1 food snob, and numerous websites. We are early 30's. Our main hobby in NYC is dining out & wine. We are adventurous eaters. We love tasting menus, bistros, mom&pops/holes in the walls. We're past the days of trendy-ness being appealing and are really about an enjoyable experience. We don't have many meals to work with and I hate disappointing meals...
I'm scared of falling into bad "tourist" stuff but I have to admit, we are going to be clueless tourists!! I'm not claiming to know anything so if I have mislabled something, please don't take offense. Not looking for asian or fusion. Don't need over-the-top unless it's REALLY worth the experience. We have Les Halles and Milos here so going for something more unique.
The recommendations i've encountered thus far are:
Caprices de Nicolas
Newtown Restaurant (the food snop recommendation)
Le Queue Cheval
Also, we are going to Le 7 Doights de la main *fetes at Theatre le corona on Thursday, are there places nearby for a theater meal?
ANY input you would be willing to share is GREATLY appreciated.. THANKS!
