i went to my 2 favorite byobs in philly friday and saturday night and had to share :)
Friday night we went to Lauletta's at 11th and Morris. It was fabulous! We started with the salad with blue cheese/pears and candied walnuts (6.95) - it was amazing, and more than enough for 2. Then we sat and drank our wine and ate way too many olives (if you haven't been they bring bread and olives to the table at the beginning of the meal)
For dinner I had the gnocci with butter and arugula (11). It was so tender and light, the only gnocci i had that might be a smidge better is at la baia. My hubby had the chicken with artichokes(12). It was huge, very tender and tasty. We finished it off sharing a bowl of homade rice pudding (4) (my fav) and it was wonderful. I absolutely love this place, and it's so reasonable!, in fact i think it may be my fav in philly, narrowly edging out my other fav that we went to Saturday night...
Saturday we went to Aden in Northern Liberties. They were packed, but we had 2 bottles of wine, so we didn't mind the slightly slow service (plus i love the eggplant dip and bread they bring out :)). I was a little disappointed that they were out of the lamb chops and the osco busco (my 2 fav dishes there), but i settled for the cornish game hen with rasin and orange rice stuffing (15) - it was good, the sauce was fabulous, but it still wasn't lamb chops :( Hubby got the tuna and orricette - the orricette was good, but the tuna was fabulous, cooked perfect, wonderful! And then of course we finished it off with a slice of tira misu (they apparently import it from milan) - and it is well worth the trip in itself. The gentelmen who owns it with his siter was out that nigh (they are israli and it was rosh hashana so i understand) - so i think that is why the svc was slightly off, i have never had a problem before.
So there you go, my 2 new favorites (although i'm going to zorba's tonite, which is an old fav :)), i just had to share!
