If you are ever in Maryland on ...301 I think -- stop in La Plata at Cynthia's pancake house. It's on the east side of the highway, if you are coming to DC you are going to have to pull a u-ey. Very Bauhaus building in a 70's way. There is something like a Captain Bob's Exxon or car wash or something at the corner. Great unbelievably cheap breakfast and good good pancakes, plus you'll sit at a counter with a bunch of people who speak a dialect you will not understand but will fascinate you and remind you that the country is NOT all homogenized (pasteurized, maybe). Great stop on the way to the Northern Neck of Virgina.
