Long time lurker (read many copper related threads!), first time poster. I've slowly been upgrading my cookware and expanding beyond the realm of cast iron. Mostly this is by digging through the aisles at the local HomeGoods and Marshalls stores.
Recently I found a Mauviel 1.5mm 24cm copper saute pan with stainless steel lining for about $150 USD at HomeGoods. It has a glass lid that says Mauviel 1830 on it. It's clearly had some rough handling in the store with some scratches but nothing that bothers me too much. Now, I know this is MUCH cheaper than anything I can find new, even cheaper than a lot of vintage on ebay by the time you factor in shipping/exchange rates etc. But the question I have for all of your experienced copper users is, is it worth it? Should I keep this pot and get in the game, or return it and save my pennies for a 2.5mm saute or rondeau pan?
To give you a sense of my current cookware collection that I'm very happy with, I have:
1) 9.5" Zwilling Sensation fry pan
2) 1.5qt Mauviel 2.5mm tinned saucepan
3) 1.5qt Baumalu 2mm tinned Windsor
4) 3qt all clad d5 saucier
5) ECI - a 4.5qt round and 7qt oval
6) Cast iron fry pans - several options for searing meat
7) Carbon steel wok
8+) A few other pots/pans (nothing that gets heavy use) but no saute/rondeau
Looking forward to your thoughts.
