best/most interesting tasting menu in/near SF

brian j | Mar 2, 200602:19 PM     27

a very good friend is coming to town in a month and would like to go out to one very fine meal. specifically he's asked for someplace with an interesting tasting menu. we both wanted to go to french laundry but rezzies are nearly impossible, plus it's pretty darned pricey.

we are prepared to spend probably up to around $100 per person on a tasting menu. but are not strictly limited to that price range. we could spend more if it's justifiable.

these are the places i've come up with so far:
~ Chez Pannisse
~ Aqua
~ Boulevard
~ Gary Danko

we're also going to be up in Sonoma on the weekend, so could potentially try something fabulous up there.
