This high-end dining establishment was a Midtown favorite and location of a mob hit that never happened. The story goes that mob boss Legs Diamond didn’t like that owners Jack Kriendler and Charlie Bern had made alliances with the police instead of the mob. When he was on his way to carry out a hit on them, someone eliminated him first. It also holds great stories of Ernest Hemingway, including one where he stayed late with a woman while the staff cleaned up one night. Turns out, the women he romanced was Diamond’s girlfriend (before the hit, of course).
