Coconut Pecan Frosting
The coconut pecan frosting that traditionally fills and tops German Chocolate Cake is not your usual buttercream. It's made of evaporated milk cooked down with sugar, butter, vanilla, and egg yolks for a rich, thick, gooey, sightly caramelized concoction. Shredded coconut and chopped pecans are then mixed in for chew, crunch, and lots of additional flavor. It does require constant stirring, lest your eggs scramble, and should still be strained once taken off the heat to ensure the finest texture, but it's worth the effort.
