Blue Nile, the newly opened Ethiopian restaurant in Jamaica Plain, is already impressing crowds of customers with its bold flavors and authentic preparations.
Kirs says the kitfo there is fantastic, and suggests asking the restaurant to “make it traditionally.” The outcome is like a spicy Ethiopian version of steak tartare: Raw beef is mixed with clarified butter and a blend of spices, resulting in a delicious cold dish with fiery flavors.
gini warns that you may have to assure the waitstaff that you really want to order the raw version, but it’s worth the effort. “It was a gigantic portion, and when we couldn’t finish it, they cooked the leftover to take home with us,” gini says.
While initial reports on service indicate that the restaurant is still working out the kinks, hounds think prices are fair. Descriptions of other dishes are positive, too. Kirs had a great sampler platter with a variety of vegetarian dishes, and gini found the key wot, or beef stew, “comforting.”
