Hounds have been watching Temazcal’s storefront ever since the beginning of the year, when a sign went up on the spot stating that a two-time Beard Award winner would be in the kitchen. That would be Todd Hall, formerly of the well-regarded La Hacienda in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Temazcal opened this Saturday, and Beachowolfe went. The new space is airy, light, and open, with water views at the bar. Modelo and Negra Modelo are on tap, and lots of different tequilas are available.

Beachowolfe had a nice costillas de cordero with rare, juicy lamb over chorizo and potatoes. The skirt steak tacos appetizer wasn’t as successful: The meat was beefy and juicy, but “I’m not sure how I feel about what looked like lettuce (I’m a little hazy from sitting at the bar for 2.5 hours waiting for a table, the menu says cabbage) and radishes. Also ONE thick flour tortilla, like naan thick, which would actually keep me from ordering them again.”

More intelligence is needed, as there are lots of intriguing dishes on the menu to try, like roasted suckling pig.
