Simon Sips, a newish coffee spot, is making a splash in a neighborhood awash in joe. Espresso drinks and brewed coffee, made with beans from the well-regarded roaster Counter Culture, are first-rate, hounds say.

The food’s as good as the coffee. Sandwiches are excellent, xigua reports, made on bread from Sullivan Street Bakery. Daniel76 singles out an awesome Cubano. Peter Cuce has fallen for sublime deviled eggs and kabocha soup. Fennel seed and date-walnut cakes hit the spot for Nels.

The owner is a veteran of the Manhattan coffee scene who ran the fondly remembered Simon Sips kiosk in Bryant Park. At his new place he’s added a short but well-chosen list of wines and beers. “This is going to be a great neighborhood place,” suggests giftable. “It’s like Abraço but you can sit, or Prune but cheaper and less crazy.”
