Somerville gastropub Highland Kitchen has shaped up to be a hound favorite, serving unbeatable versions of (mostly) classic American dishes. Fried chicken, pan-roasted chicken, burgers, fancy-diner kind of stuff. Good orders:

– The blackened catfish po’boy, served on a toasted, buttered roll with house-made rémoulade—”so, so good. I have dreams about it!” says Jolyon Helterman
– Goat curry stew, with big hunks of braised goat in a spicy curry sauce with potatoes
– Calamari, fresh and soft inside, breaded and fried crispy outside
– Batter-fried Brussels sprouts, tossed in Buffalo wing sauce and served with blue cheese
– Vinegary collard greens, redolent of pork
– Banana bread pudding with ice cream and caramel sauce, “great for fans of ‘custard-y’ bread pudding (like me),” says LeoLioness
