The next time you fly Alaska Airlines, the soda you order won’t be the run-of-the-mill, high-fructose-corn-syrup-sweetened Coke or Pepsi. The Seattle-based airline recently announced plans to serve Jones Soda—the only nationally distributed soda sweetened solely with cane sugar—on board all its Alaska and Horizon Air flights.
The Alaska/Horizon in-flight beverage service is indeed impressive. According to the article on BevNet.com (for those truly geeky about the beverage industry), “The airline also serves award-winning Alaskan Amber beer, Athena® bottled water and Red Bull Energy Drink. On its new flights to Hawaii, the airline offers Kona Longboard Island Lager and Johnny Love Aloha Vodka. … Horizon also offers complimentary premium Northwest wines and microbrews.”
Seeing as one of my current beefs is the appalling quality of airline food, it’s nice to see someone doing it well. At least in the beverage category.
