People of Minneapolis–St. Paul: Don’t dine and ditch. Or at least don’t do it at Azia or Temple. Because if you do, the owner will judo your ass into submission until the cops show up.
Two no-goodniks rang up a $410 bill at Temple Restaurant, a high-end French-Asian place in downtown Minneapolis. Then they skipped out. That’s when things went wrong with their ingenious plan.
Owner Thom Pham, who had seated them at a sidewalk table, was fuming.
‘I was thinking, I hope to God I see these people again,’ he said.
Three hours later, Pham got his wish.
Pham walked into Azia, the upscale Asian-fusion eatery he owns at 2550 Nicollet Av. S., and found the pair finishing off some expensive drinks after a hearty second dinner that included a rack of lamb.
‘I thought, “Oh my God, I can’t believe my wishes are so powerful,”’ Pham said.
For all the gory details including jail time and the whole cross-dressing subplot, you’ll just have to read the story yourself. It’s inspiring. Unless, of course, you happen to be the type of person who dines and ditches.
