Olive Garden doesn’t think its customers can ever really have too many breadsticks. When one investor’s report criticized the restaurant’s breadstick policy and cited concerns about food waste, parent company Darden fought back (watch John Oliver’s take from HBO’s Last Week Tonight). It said Olive Garden’s unlimited breadstick policy “conveys Italian generosity.”

We couldn’t agree more. After all, what memories of the Olive Garden does America have when you take away the salad and breadsticks? Just to prove our point, we’d like to show you a number of times Olive Garden breadsticks really won.

1. When They One-Upped Lady and the Tramp

What’s better than that spaghetti-slurping scene from Lady and the Tramp? This Olive Garden moment between bros. Don’t fight over the breadstick, boys, there’s plenty more where that came from.

2. That Time They Scored a Prom Date

Forget red-rose bouquets with baby’s breath. The right way to ask a girl out to prom is with Olive Garden breadsticks (and SweeTarts, Sour Patch Kids, Jolly Ranchers, and Reese’s Minis). We’re hoping Emily Tollefson of Moorhead, Minnesota, had the good sense to say yes.

3. When They Were Christened With a New Nickname

Last July, when the rest of the world was fawning over the arrival of Prince George, this tweeter was oohing and ahhing over another kind of royalty. “The real Royal Baby,” one fan tweeted, spawning a nickname we’ll never forget.

4. The Day They Put Pizza to Shame

There is no such thing as unwanted breadsticks. Because when you can’t finish them, you do what this brilliant-minded individual does: You make pepperoni and cheese pizza sticks.

5. When They Became the Next Hot Selfie Accessory

These three girls know what’s up: The Olive Garden breadstick makes for a very enticing selfie accessory. “If you’re going to sin, sin well,” the captionist (and OG breadstick aficionado) declared in Spanish.

6. That Time They Made the Dog Happy

We can’t imagine the feeling of intense elation this Boston Terrier experienced when its molars dug into this breadstick. Just look at those googly eyes.

7. When They Met Their Match

Something tells us this girl takes the promise of unlimited breadsticks to the next level. We wonder if she’d be able to eke out “chubby bunny” while downing 10 of these at the same time.
