Café de Mexico fired up the grill in Sherman Oaks at the beginning of the year, replacing a dessert-forward café concept here, on a busy stretch of Riverside Drive. Hypnotic23 dropped in and reports on Chowhound that Café de Mexico is a taco slinger to be reckoned with. Prices are higher than average (tacos start at $2.75 each), but the tacos are tasty enough to rival the best in the Valley.
The tacos al pastor are like ones in Mexico, with meat carved off the trompo (the spit). Fish tacos contain either fried or grilled pescado, topped with lettuce, pico de gallo, and Café de Mexico’s secret sauce.
If the prices make you balk, Hypnotic23 suggests stopping in during taco happy hour (3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday), when they’re $2 each.
