I had a chowdown here & 13 people showed up. I had pre-ordered some dishes & ordered the rest when I got there.
We had 2 tables: 1 table had 6, other had 7.
Joel brought a bottle of wine he made: Deakin St. A red wine.
FREE salty/sweet peanuts given out.
Dishes we tried:
scallion pancake - very good, nice & flaky.
Couple's delight - not enough meat, too much tendons. Just so-so.
Yunnan style steamed chicken soup in clay pot $15.95 - it was very tasty broth & chicken was fine.
xlb - The skin is too doughy, and the meat didn't look so good. Ate it fine though. 6 to an order, we had 3 orders.
beef stew in clay pot - not enough meat, think it was just broiled. Don't remember much about it.
Peking duck $32.95 - pre-ordered. I thought it was tasty. Comes w/ crepes, sliced onions, sliced cucumbers, hoisin sauce.
chicken in explosive chili - I didn't try it since it was fried. There was a pic on the outside window so Windy wanted it. Others seemed to like it.
mapo tofu - pretty spicy.
spicy fish w/ flaming chili oil $18 - not a lot of sliced fish, but I thought it was ok. Very spicy chili oil.
big pea sprouts - tasty, sauteed w/ garlic.
tan tan noodle - I thought it was ok, I prefer a sesame topping, this had the sauce on the bottom. Individual dishes were given out.
sauteed veggie (bok choy) w/ ham in broth - very tasty veggies.
Sweet Chinese dessert - I liked the date & the sweet sugar.
fresh oranges sliced - nice & sweet
fortune cookies - fine
With a 10% coupon per table we paid $25 & $30 w/ tip & tax for 12 dishes.
