Zion Restaurants, Whiptail Grill Highlight

We just returuned to Zion after a 5 year break. After our breakfast at Hell's Backbone Grill in Boulder on our drive into town which was amazing, nothing quite measured up. But, we were delighted to discover the Whiptail Grill across the street from our hotel (Flanigans.) It doesn't look like a restaurant at first. It looks an old converted gas station. But, the food was very good. It was homemade, owner run, creative, high quality Southwestern food. We always like to find smaller casual owner run places, with good quality food, which this was. My husbands pineapple chipotle ribs were fall off the bone, tender, really flavorful, some of the best he has ever had. We were happy to find a place to come to for easy, good quality food in the future.

Our first meal in town was the Spotted Dog, which we remembered from our last trip several years back. Truly, it just an average restaurant trying to be fancy. Unfortunately, the white table cloths, good wine list, and pretense, don't make up for their average food. But, if you do want a more fine dining experience, focus on experience, the food is fine.
