After trying to goto dinner at Lee's last night (8pm) and being turned away by the packed restaurant with a lineup to the door.. we ended up at YYZ (one of the few that was open in the area).
Three of us dined and none had been there before. It was a slow night so the owner was our waiter (very good service). They asked the type of water we wanted and delivered a large bottle of Evian for the table (and not pushing other bottles on us like some other places). We asked the owner to recomend a red wine - he chose a very nice red Zinfendel (sp?) which we enjoyed.
For staters we had the Soup of the day (pureed corn and goat cheese) it was very nice and smooth more like a squash then a corn soup.. the Warm Tomato and Buffalo Mozzarella Tart (very nice texture with the wam tomatos!) The Spice Hot & Cold Shrimp with Avocado (nice and spicy and a large portion (actually all of the apps are larger then I have seen anywhere lately!) and finally the Torchon of Quebec Foie Gras Duck Breast Prosciutto & buckwheat crepe.. Amazing! very smooth..
Being a table of meat eaters we went for the Grilled Wild Boar striploin with pork belly Spring Roll (best of the bunch!) Veal Tenderloin in Truffle butter lemon Risotto very nice creamy risotto and a nice peice of meat.. and finally the Grilled Beef Striploin with cipolline onion tart - nothing bad can be said about any of these dishes! They were good portions amazing flavour and mine came with the smallest bok choy I have ever seen! Each Entree was under $30 amazing in this city now a days..
Service was freindly and efficient, we all left satisfied and stuffed. One other note they have been open for about 3 years yet the interior looks like we were the first ones in there. For a place that has all white funtature there was not a scratch or mark anywhere. If they take that much care on the decor you know they must have a sparkling kitchen!
I will recomend this place to anyone who asks...
PS for smokers they even have a separate smoking lounge!
